Blake White's essay tackles a matter that is too often ignored. How does the whole Bible fit together? How should we understand the various covenants in the scriptures? How does the OT law given at Mount Sinai relate to believers today? Mr. White leads us on a very helpful tour of these issues, and his work is a good example of biblical theology. I commend his work for your reading and reflection.

A Prisoner’s Christianity is written for prisoners, by a prisoner. I have spent the last eighteen years in New Jersey prisons, serving a thirty-year sentence for murder. By God’s mercy I have been a Christian for most of that time, and in one sense this book is my story. When writing about “Sin”, “Repentance”, “The Fight of Faith”, etc., I am writing from experience. And because I have experienced these things in prison I hope I can share something with others in prison.

Let me confess that I am guilty of my crimes. I am guilty and I deserve my sentence, and worse. This book is written for people who deserve to be in prison. This is not a book about getting out of jail by faith. It is a book about knowing God’s salvation, and living by faith even while behind prison bars.

What “God promised the [Jewish] fathers” does not wait for a future fulfillment. The true people of God, the church, have inherited the “sure blessings promised to David.” I repeat my earlier statement; spiritual fulfillment of the promised blessings now does not automatically rule out a natural fulfillment in the future. The church’s present possession of the sure mercies of David does not prove without question that the prophecy cannot have a double fulfillment: one spiritual, and one natural. However, with Gary George, I insist on clear New Testament evidence before such a hope can have a valid foundation.
If nothing else comes from reading this work other than a desire for a more scrutinizing search of the Scriptures, we will have accomplished at least one of our main goals. “It is good to be zealously affected” (Gal. 4:18), “even if through my lie, God’s truth abounds” (Rom. 3:7, ESV).
